There are a number of things employees dislike about their employers. And today, I’ll tell you the number 1 thing employees hate about us, their employers.
My family and I were in Singapore when I heard the news about the North Luzon earthquake last Monday through one of my group chats on Facebook. Well, I hope and pray that you and your family are safe.
There was another news that caught my eye…
Celebrity doctor Joel Mendez, who was arrested in July 2018 on charges of rape, faces new legal battles as the CA upholds his 7-year jail sentence over SSS fraud. Photo from Rappler
Does it ring a bell?
He has been a famous celebrity doctor, a dermatologist. Joel was sentenced to 7 years in prison over his failure to remit the Social Security System (SSS) contributions of his employees!
Mendez was ordered by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court to pay the SSS the amount of P1.8 million representing unremitted contributions from October 2011 to January 2013.
With all those clients, I am sure that Dr. Joel Mendez is rich. I am also sure that he did not intend to cheat his employees out of their SSS contributions. Especially the amount of P1.8 million which I am sure was nothing for him.
It may have been an oversight. It may have been anomalies committed by his trusted people. Or, the negligence of his accounting department.
Whatever it was, sadly, he was accountable. The impression that this incident was that he cheated his employees.
“Mas mabuti nang failed ka sa exams kaysa you passed because you cheated.”
My kids grew up with this saying.
Character is more important than high grades.
Aside from hard work, being trustworthy is a strong family value that was ingrained to us by our grandparents. This was the value that allowed us to borrow from our friends, relatives, and suppliers.
They know that come what may, we will never cheat them.
“Never cheat your customers.”
“Never cheat your employees.”
Just like we seek to delight our customers, we strive to delight our employees first.
We have to be extra careful about maintaining our trustworthiness with our people. When their trust with us is solid, they can make our customers and suppliers trust us.
And with that trust, we can surely grow our businesses much easier and faster!
And should we fail, God forbid, we will always be able to bounce back.
Dahil sa negosyo, TRUST ang puhunan!
Choose to always be honest with your employees.
